From the Wyo Stays team.
A huge share of travelers bring their dogs — and in outdoorsy Wyoming, even more do. Going truly pet-friendly opens a big, loyal market. Done right, you capture it without trashing your property.
Why it pays
- A large, underserved demand pool — pet owners filter hard for pet-friendly and book what they find.
- Longer stays and loyalty — a place that welcomes the dog earns repeat guests.
- A modest pet fee adds revenue and covers extra cleaning.
How to do it without regret
- Protect the property: durable, washable rugs; hard or luxury-vinyl floors over delicate carpet; washable throws; a designated "muddy paws" entry (very Wyoming — pairs with your mudroom).
- Provide the extras guests love: bowls, a towel for muddy dogs, a lint roller, waste bags, a note on nearby trails and the vet.
- Set clear rules: where pets are/aren't allowed (off the beds if you prefer), never left alone unless crated, clean up the yard. Put it in your house rules.
- Charge a fair pet fee and factor extra turnover time.
- Market it: great photos of the dog-friendly features, and say "dogs welcome" clearly — it's a search filter.
The Wyoming angle
Trails, rivers, and wide-open space make this prime dog-travel country. Lean into it: a fenced yard, trail recommendations, and a genuine welcome for the dog is a real differentiator here.
