What does a renters insurance policy actually cover?

A standard renters policy covers two main things — your personal belongings (clothes, electronics, furniture) against fire, theft, smoke, and water damage, and personal liability if someone is injured in your unit or you accidentally damage the building. Most policies also include a small amount of additional-living-expense coverage if your unit becomes uninhabitable.

What's the minimum coverage Wyo Stays requires?

We require a minimum of $100,000 in personal liability coverage and active personal property coverage for the full term of your lease. The Beagle policy meets these requirements by default.

How do I add Wyo Stays as an interested party?

Accepted Answer

When you set up your policy through Beagle, you'll be prompted to add Wyo Stays as an 'interested party' (also called 'additional interest'). Use: Wyo Stays LLC, 151 W Brundage St, Sheridan WY 82801. This means your insurer will notify us if your policy lapses or is cancelled — so we can reach out before it becomes a lease issue.

Why does the landlord's insurance not cover my belongings?

Accepted Answer

The owner's property insurance only covers the building itself — not your furniture, electronics, clothing, or personal liability. If there's a fire, burst pipe, or break-in, your belongings are your responsibility unless you carry your own renters policy.

Question 5

What happens if my policy lapses mid-lease?

Accepted Answer

If your coverage lapses, you're in violation of the lease and we'll reach out to give you a chance to reinstate. Continued non-compliance can result in a fee or, in serious cases, the start of a lease enforcement process. The easier path is to either renew the existing policy or verify a new one — both take under five minutes.

I already have a policy through another carrier — do I have to switch?

Accepted Answer

No. If you already carry an active renters policy that meets our minimum requirements, just use the 'Verify your policy' link to upload proof through Beagle's verification portal. We'll match it to your file and you're set.

Question 7

Does my policy cover my pet?

Accepted Answer

Standard renters insurance includes some pet-related liability, but some breeds and exotic pets are excluded. Beagle offers a separate pet liability add-on if your dog or cat needs additional coverage. Ask before you bind the policy.
