Sheridan County, Wyoming at a Glance
Sheridan, Wyoming is a historic western town of approximately 18,000 people at the eastern base of the Bighorn Mountains. The county seat of Sheridan County sits at 3,745 feet elevation, 35 miles north of Buffalo and 130 miles south of Billings, Montana.
The town features a nationally recognized historic Main Street, the WYO Theater, Kings Saddlery & Museum, Blacktooth Brewing Company, and the Brinton Museum in nearby Big Horn. Sheridan serves as a gateway to the Bighorn National Forest, Cloud Peak Wilderness, and is within driving distance of Yellowstone National Park.
Author Craig Johnson, creator of the Longmire mystery series, lives in nearby Ucross. The fictional Absaroka County is based on the Sheridan and Buffalo area. The annual Longmire Days festival draws international visitors each July.
