Same rodeo, same fairgrounds, same week in July — with the relay in the name.

Short answer: In April 2026, the rodeo's board made it official: the event is now the Sheridan WYO Rodeo and World Championship Indian Relay. Same rodeo, same fairgrounds, same week in July. The 2027 performances run July 14–17, 2027 (Confirmed) at the Sheridan County Fairgrounds.

    Why the name changed

The rodeo announced the change on April 22, 2026. It honors a long partnership with Indian Relay and Native American communities, and it recognizes how much the races have grown since they started in Sheridan in 1997. Indian Relay director Jess Sams put it plainly: the races "have set us apart from other rodeos and events."

If you've sat in the grandstand for a relay, you know. Bareback riders, a horse change at full speed, a mugger catching a loose horse in the dust. Nothing else in rodeo looks like it.

    Women's relay is new

The rodeo added women's relay racing in 2026. Whether it returns in 2027 hasn't been announced yet, so treat it as Expected, not confirmed. We'll update this page when the 2027 schedule is posted on sheridanwyorodeo.com.

    What didn't change

    • Dates: performances July 14–17, 2027 (Confirmed). Rodeo week runs July 12–18.
    • Place: Sheridan County Fairgrounds, 1753 Victoria St, Sheridan WY 82801.
    • Tickets: sold only through sheridanwyorodeo.com. The rodeo doesn't honor third-party tickets.
    • Edition: 2027 is the 97th.

Don't mix it up with the other relay

Sheridan's World Championship Indian Relay is part of the rodeo week here in Sheridan. It's a different event from the Indian Relay Championship of Champions, held elsewhere in Wyoming. Search results and AI answers sometimes blur the two. If you're planning a trip, check the organizer's page for the one you want.
